Chartered Accountant (CA) Course Details :
The Chartered Accountancy Course and Profession in India is regulated by The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), New Delhi. It is considered one of the best career paths and has been pursued by the students who find themselves comfortable at numbers.
The CA Course has four Levels in total
- CPT (Common Proficiency Test)
- IPCC/IPCE (Integrated Professional Competence Course)
- Three years of Articleship under any C.A who is practicing the profession
- CA Final Exam
Enrollment
- After 12th ( CPT)
- After Graduation ( Direct Entry)
The process to become a Chartered Accountant (CA) is as following:
- Registration for the CPT (Common Proficiency Test):First step is to register for CPT with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) after passing 10th Standard examination.
- Pass the CPT(Common Proficiency Test):Take CPT examination after you appear in the 12th exam and after completion of period of 60 days from the date of registration for CPT.
- IPCC Registration:Register for Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC). Candidate should pass both CPT and 10+2 before registering for Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC). Registration for IPCC should be done 9 months before the first day of the month in which exam is held. IPCC has total 8 papers(Group 1+Group 2). Group I and 2 are composed of four papers each. Passing Group I is necessary for commencing Articleship.
- ITT (Information Technology Training) and Orientation Course:
Successfully complete 100 hours Information Technology Training (ITT). Orientation and ITT are to be completed before registering for Articleship.Successfully complete Orientation Course of one week spanning 35 hours and covering topics, such as, personality development, communication skills, office procedure, business environment, general commercial knowledge, etc.
- Appear and Pass IPCC Group I Exam:You can appear and pass Group I or Both Groups of Integrated Professional Competence Examination (IPCE).
- Appear and Pass IPCC Group II Exam:You can attempt Group 2 in next attempt(After Group 1 attempt) or during Articleship.
- Registration for the Articleship:Articleship is important and is a part of the overall process. Candidates need to register as Articled Assistant for a period of 3 years with a practicing CA after passing either Group – 1 or both the Groups of IPCE.
- Registration for the C.A Final Course:Here is what we can term it the final stage of this time driven process. This is a Final CA exam and you need to register for C.A Final Course after passing both the groups of IPCC.
- Pass the CA Final Exam:During the last 6 months of 3 years of articled training you have to register and pass the CA Final. Candidates are supposed to pass the group 1 and 2 of the CA Final to complete the process successfully.
- Complete Articleship:Complete 3 years period of articled training.
- GMCS:Successfully complete the Course on General Management and Communication Skills (15 days).
- Membership:Enroll as a member of ICAI and designate as a Chartered Accountant.

- 4.5 Years for CPT
- 3 years for the graduation route
