How To Join DEFENCE After 12th

 

1.NDA & NA EXAMINATION : 

The NDA entry is open twice a year.

Form availability – Mar and Oct Notified by UPSC

Vacancies Per Course – 300 (195 Army, 66 Air Force, 39 Navy)

 

The requirements for entry into NDA is as follows:

Age – 16 ½ to 19½ yrs(at the day the course is expected to begin)
ie. Born Between 2nd Jan to 1st Jul for Dec Course and 2nd Jul to 1st Jan for Jul Course
Qualification – 12th Class of 10+2 for Army and with Physics and Maths for AF/Navy

Application to be Received by – 10-15 Nov for Jan Course and 10-15 Apr for Jul Course
Likely SSB Date – Sep to Oct and Jan to Apr(SSB can sometimes get very delayed, so this is just for reference)

2. Technical Entry Scheme -TES(For High School Science Graduates):

3. Combined Defense Service Examination

One of the easiest ways to join the Defense Forces after the bachelor’s degree is to sit for the UPSC examination for the same—Combined Defense Service Examination. You can sit for this examination if your age is anywhere between 19-24 years and you’ve completed your graduation from a UGC recognized university or institution. If you’re male, you can select either Indian Military Academy (IMA) or Officers Training Academy (OTA) as your training institute, and in case of females, its OTA where the training is imparted.

The written examination for the same is held twice a year, September/October and February/March for which the notifications are provided in all the leading newspapers and journals.

Type of Commission

 

  • PC for Men: Candidates joining as PC officers would continue to serve till the age of superannuation as per their branch and rank.
  • SSC for Men & Women: The Engagement period for SSC Flying Branch is 14 years from the date of Commissioning (Not extendable)
  • Initial tenure for SSC officers in Ground Duty (Tech) and Ground Duty (Non-Tech) Branches would be for a period of ten years. An extension of four years may be granted subject to willingness, suitability, service requirements and availability of vacancies.

Eligibility for AFCAT 2019

  • Nationality: Candidate must be a citizen of India

Age

  • Flying Branch through AFCAT and NCC Special Entry: 20 to 24 years as on 01 July 2020 i.e. born between 02nd July 1996 to 01st July 2000 (both dates inclusive). Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable upto 26 years i.e. born between 02nd July 1994 to 01st July 2000 (both dates inclusive).
  • Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) Branch: 20 to 26 years as on 01st July 2020 i.e. born between 02nd July 1994 to 01st July 2000 (both dates inclusive).

  • Candidates who have cleared Section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.

 

Meteorology

 

  • Post Graduate Degree in any Science stream/ Mathematics/ Statistics/Geography/Computer Applications/Environmental Science/ Applied Physics/ Oceanography/Meteorology/Agricultural Meteorology/Ecology & Environment /Geophysics/Environmental Biology with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together (Provided Maths and Physics were studied at Graduation Level with a minimum of 55% marks in each.

5. University Entry Scheme

This being a Permanent Commission job, only male candidates are eligible to apply. There are two interview schedules for the entrance—the first one is held at the campus whereas the final one is the SSB interview held at the designated centers. The eligibility criteria for the same is a B.Tech degree (the final and pre-final year students can also apply) whereas the age limit is anywhere between 19-25 years. The training for the same is imparted at the IMA.

The notification generally comes out in the month of May.

 

 

6. Special Entries for NCC

You don’t have to sit for any written entrance exam for the same; if you’re a law graduate with a minimum of 50% marks and/or are backed by a 2 years’ service in the NCC Senior Division Army with a minimum of B or C grade in the qualifying examination, you’re entitled to be called in for the SSB interviews directly that’s required for your entrance into the Defence forces. Any person between 19-25 years’ age can apply for the same, and the training is generally provided at the OTA.

The notification for the same comes around in the months of April and October.

4 Ways For Girls To Join DEFENCE: Women Entries 2019

 

 

 

  1. UPSC Entry/SSCW(NT):

    In UPSC entry, the women can join the army only through Short Service Commission Women (Non-Technical) Entry Scheme.

  • Eligibility: Any unmarried graduate aged between 19-25 years is
  • eligible to apply.
  • Education and Examination: She has to clear the Combined Defence Services Examination which is held twice a year in July and November.
  • SSB: Candidates who are successful in the examination are shortlisted for SSB to be held in June-July and November-December every year.
  • Selection: 12 (Twelve) women are selected every six months for the beginning of training based on the merit list.
  • Training: The training is of 49 weeks held at OTA Chennai beginning every April and October.
  1. Non-UPSC Entries:

    In Non-UPSC entries, there are two entries: NCC Special Entry and JAG Entry, both of which are Short Service Commission and for Women.

SSCW NCC (SPL) Entry Women:

  • Eligibility: Any unmarried graduate aged between 19-25 years having an NCC ‘C’ certificate is eligible to apply.
  • Education and Examination: There is no need to attend any CEE for this entry except for a minimum of 50% in graduation with a valid NCC ‘C’ certificate with minimum ‘B’ grade.
  • SSB: Candidates are shortlisted for SSB to be held in June-July and December-January every year through respective directorates.
  • Selection: Every six months, 4 (Four) women are selected from the merit list to undergo training at OTA Chennai.
  • Training: The training is of 49 weeks held at OTA Chennai beginning every April and October.

 SSCW Judge Advocate General:

  • Eligibility: Any unmarried LLB graduate aged between 21-27 years is eligible to apply.
  • Education and Examination: There is no need to attend any CEE for this entry except for a minimum of 55% in LLB.
  • SSB: Candidates are shortlisted for SSB to be held in June-July and December-January every year through Directorate General Recruiting / AG Branch.
  • Selection: Every six months, 4 (Four) women are selected from the merit list to undergo training at OTA Chennai.
  • Training: The training is of 49 weeks held at OTA Chennai beginning every April and October.
  1. SSCW(Tech):

    This is a technical entry for the women engineering graduates. Women with an engineering degree can join the army as Short Service Commission officers.

  • Eligibility: Any unmarried engineering graduate aged between 20-27 years is eligible to apply.
  • Education and Examination: There is no need to attend any CEE for this entry and minimum cut off varies as per latest notification.
  • SSB: Candidates are shortlisted for SSB to be held in June-July and November-December every year.
  • Selection: 20 (Twenty) women are selected every six months for the beginning of training based on the merit list.
  • Training: The training is of 49 weeks held at OTA Chennai beginning every April and October.

Apart from the above mainstream entries, there are few other entries like Army Medical Corps, Army Education Corps and Military Nursing Service which inducts women on a direct entry basis depending on the availability and requirement. These entries are non-periodic. However, women are also commissioned into these corps once they complete their training through one of the above entries.
